Every secondary school in Singapore selects its own DSA talent areas. Here are the most common categories and what to expect.
Sports & Games
Football, badminton, swimming, table tennis, track & field, and more. Most schools offer at least one sport.
High availabilityPerforming Arts
Concert band, choir, Chinese orchestra, dance, drama. Strong CCAs that schools actively recruit for.
High availabilitySTEM
Science, mathematics, robotics, coding. Increasingly popular as schools build innovation programmes.
Growing fastVisual Arts & Design
Art, photography, media production. Fewer schools offer this but competition is lower.
Medium availabilityLanguage & Humanities
Bilingualism, debate, creative writing, Model UN. Schools value strong communicators.
Medium availabilityLeadership & Uniformed Groups
NCC, NPCC, Scouts, Guides, student council. Recognised leadership experience is key.
High availabilityHow to choose a talent area
Pick the area your child genuinely enjoys and has a track record in. Schools look for sustained commitment, not just trophies. A student who has been in the school band for four years is often a stronger candidate than one with a single competition win.
